"I deeply believe that the prime good of any society's governing figures should be to promote human movement up the levels of human existence" - Dr. Clare W. Graves

Spiral Dynamics

To work with people effectively, it is crucial to have a sound understanding of how people operate and how they change or do not change.

Spiral Dynamics (SD) is an incisive and far-reaching theory of human development which took 30 years of research by Dr. Clare Graves. It explains deep forces in human nature which shape our values and lays out both a pattern and trajectory for change. SD helps us gain a greater understanding of how people, organizations and communities function from within.

It purports that human nature is not fixed: humans are able, when forced by circumstances, to adapt to their environment by constructing new, more complex, conceptual models of the world that allow them to handle new problems. Each new model includes and transcends all previous models.   These conceptual models are organized around so-called vMeme: systems of core values or collective intelligences, applicable to both individuals and entire cultures.

Each vMeme holds positive and negative traits, reacting to surrounding conditions.
